Pansy is an experienced litigation solicitor with over 14 years of postqualification practice in Hong Kong, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants across the full spectrum of personal injury and employees’ compensation claims. She regularly advises employees, workers, patients, drivers, passengers, insurers, corporate clients, shipowners/P&I Clubs and property managers in claims arising from workplace and industrial accidents, employees’ compensation matters, traffic accidents, public liability incidents, occupiers’ liability claims, crew claims, accident on board vessels and aircrafts and catastrophic injury cases involving longterm disability.
Pansy has extensive experience in pursuing and defending medical negligence claims, including cases involving surgical errors, misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, consent issues and complications arising from medical and nursing care. She is adept at managing complex liability and quantum issues, working closely with medical and other experts, and guiding clients through investigation, preaction protocols, negotiation, mediation and trial where necessary.
She also has significant experience in handling contentious claims and applications under the Mental Health Ordinance (Cap. 136) regarding mentally incapacitated persons as well as probate issues in respect of fatal accidents.
Pansy has also been involved in leading litigation, including work on the landmark case of Chan Pak Ting v Chan Chi Kuen & Anor (HCPI 235 of 2011), which has had significant impact on the discount rate in assessment of damages in personal injury litigation in Hong Kong. This experience provides particular insight into high value and precedent setting claims and the strategic considerations that arise for both claimants and defendants. She was also involved in advising plaintiffs in one of the catastrophic maritime disaster in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining the Firm, Pansy worked in both an international law firm, a leading independent Hong Kong law firm as well as being a partner at an established specialist Hong Kong law firm. She was also a founding partner of a boutique law firm.
Known for a pragmatic yet empathetic approach, Pansy takes care to explain the litigation process and risks in clear terms, and to secure fair and commercially sensible outcomes. She draws on experience acting for both plaintiffs and institutional defendants to anticipate opposing strategies, evaluate realistic settlement ranges and achieve efficient, cost effective resolutions that reflect clients’ legal, financial and reputational priorities.
